What to Expect from All-On4The following timeline is what to expect on the day of your All-on-4 procedure. These are estimated times for a procedure that involves a single arch. The timeline may be extended by 90 minutes or so if you receive a bridge for both arches. It may also be reduced by 90 minutes for patients already wearing a complete denture. Regardless of your circumstance, Palani Center for Dental Implants is committed to providing quick, efficient, and safe services for patients in need of a full mouth restoration. 7:00 AMBe sure to be well-rested and get a good night's sleep the day before your procedure, as it will begin at 7:00 AM. When you arrive, you will be greeted by our friendly and helpful staff, as well as Giri Palani, DDS, FICOI. He will review with you, one final time, what will take place during your procedure, and what to expect afterward. 7:15 AMAt 7:15 AM, you will be brought into a special room for sedation and anesthesia. Our anesthesia specialist will administer, via IV, a sedative that will put you into a deep, relaxed state of sleep. General anesthesia requires us to monitor your vital signs, including your heart rate, breathing rate, and blood pressure. You will be hooked up to a vital signs device, to ensure your safety and reduce any risk of complications. 8:00 AMAt 8:00 AM, we will begin your procedure. Giri Palani, DDS, FICOI will prepare your mouth by removing any remaining teeth, and making four small incisions into the gum tissue. Each implant will be placed beneath the gum tissue, and into the jawbone at a specific angle. The rear implants are typically placed at a 30-45-degree angle. Holes have to be drilled into the bone to make space for the implants since each one will serve as the root component of a prosthesis. 10:30 AMOnce the implants are in place, we can finish the surgical phase of the procedure. Giri Palani, DDS, FICOI will clean the surgical sites and suture up the incisions. Around 10:30 AM, we will cease general anesthesia and wait for the effects of the drugs to wear off. 10:30 AM – 1:00 PMFor the next two and a half hours, from about 10:30 AM to 1:00 PM, you will rest in another room, and wait for your new teeth to made by our in-house laboratory. The restoration is temporary and typically made from acrylic. We are not able to install your final restoration until a few months later. The implants need time to heal. During the next few months, the implants and your jaw bone will fuse together through osseointegration. Once osseointegration is complete, the implants will be strong enough to support a final restoration. Osseointegration is largely responsible for the many benefits of All-on-4! 1:00 PMThe entire process should be completed around 1:00 PM. At this time, we will load the temporary restoration, and give you your new smile for the first time! We will then review instructions and follow-up care to ensure a smooth healing process.
