When the infection inside the teeth has already spread to the nerves, we may recommend a root canal procedure. In this way you can still hold on to your tooth and avoid having implants or dentures.

You don't really need the nerves inside of your teeth, so you won't lose any of its functions. You really don't want to deal with a very painful abscessed tooth if you don't undergo endodontic care.

Post-care After Root Canal Procedure

The procedure, although you will be given a local anesthetic, is still traumatic. You need time to heal, especially in the first 48 hours. You need to follow the instructions carefully for good oral health and, so you don't overexert yourself.

Monitor the pain levels, especially if the pain won't go away even with over-the-counter medicines or prescription drugs. Typically, the pain only lasts at the maximum three days. If you still feel pain for prolonged periods, go visit the dentist once again.

Don't chew using the particular tooth at least after getting the clearance from us. Avoid sugary foods, soda, alcohol, and cigarettes. Don't eat crunchy foods, meat or other hard snacks which may damage the filling.

Only drink lukewarm water. Brush the treated tooth lightly, gargle with a mouthwash and floss as recommended by the dentist. If you suffer from teeth grinding, make sure to wear a mouth guard before you sleep to protect the crown or dental filling in the treated tooth.

Steer clear from stress for the time being. We know that can be difficult but it's one of the ways to protect your teeth. Studies have found a link between chronic stress and bruxism (teeth grinding). So, if you sleep with your mind clear enough, you may avoid tension in your jaw which may contribute to the grinding of teeth.
